I have a degree in Architectural Science from Ryerson University majoring in project management. After graduation, I worked for several months with Gord Cooke one of the leading minds in indoor air quality and building science throughout North America. Working with Gord, I assisted him as a design evaluator and air-tightness tester for R-2000 homes in south western Ontario.
I worked for the Ontario Home Builders’ Association as Manager of Technical Services for 7 years and Director of Industry Relations for 10 years. My work with the association made me an integral part of Building Code development in Ontario as well as working very closely with the Tarion Warranty Corporation, advising builders on warranty issues and policy. I have a very strong building science background and understanding of how both modern and older structures function and I have a keen interest in advanced mechanical systems for houses.
I also worked for about 2 years as the assistant regional manager for Tarion (formerly Ontario New Home Warranty Program) where I gained intimate knowledge of the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act and regulations. Due to this experience, I was chosen as one of the co-authors of Tarion’s Construction Performance Guidelines.
My experience with builders ranges from Customer Service Manager to Supervisor of Quality Assurance where I experienced all manner of issues and became quite adept at problem solving and honed my observation, mediation and listening skills. There aren't too many problems or challenges I haven't been able to solve. As a consultant, I work with builders and home owners to identify the nature of thier problem and actively work with them to put action plans in place.
In addition to my education and extensive work experience within the industry, I am a proficient handyman and carpenter. I have skills in rough and finish carpentry, tiling, drywall, landscaping, plumbing, electrical, some masonry and probably a couple more that I’ve missed. I have a strong interest in preserving older century and Victorian homes. I am a designer with a keen sense of spatial relationships and colour; a writer; a perfectionist; a husband and a father (the Henderson ‘Brothers’); and an honest and respectful individual.
